I'm an automotive tech. Surge has proved incredibly valuable. It gets used on just about every job. Especially wiring repairs. Saves me on trips to and from my tool box. In a job where speed is everything as far as making money, this Leatherman Super tool has proved invaluable. I recently lost my original Surge. The snaps on the original leather case became weak. I didnt notice it popped open. Looked everywhere, went 2 days without it and had to order another.


Got the new one, exact same quality tool. Everything seems tighter. Less rattle than the original. Only complaint is the nylon leather case really sucks. The sides are low and I've found the tool can easily slide out of it. Ordered a different case. Hopefully this one is better. Not entirely sure why leatherman Super tool skimps on the case but overall still satisfied.

This product looks great but can't stand up to mild use. The lock release for the bottle opener and other tools broke after only two months of very light use. I am sending it back for repair under the 25 year limited warranty, but would NOT buy this Leatherman Super Tool product again and only hope it lasts longer than two months after warranty service return or replacement of the item.


I have been running on cheap off-brand multi-tools for far too long. Upgraded to the Surge, and I have never been happier. I can do just about anything with it. I haven't, but will eventually get the handy extra bit set. The case that it comes with is also great. It has a sleeve on each side for more accessories, like a flashlight. The only thing that I don't like (not too big of a deal) is the small pocket for the file/saw sleeve is now in the front instead of the back of the pouch, which can get in the way.

I checked out the display tool at a local shop and found the blade a bit dull, but decided it was no big deal and that I could sharpen it up myself without a problem since I knew Leatherman super tool wouldn't use a cheap steel. When I finally got one in the mail later on down the line I was blown away that it was actually razor sharp. The blade locks up nice and tight and is excellent for utility tasks. Perhaps the best feature of this tool is that the two most used tools on it are instantly accessible and extremely well made - The blade and the bottle opener. The blade is excellent and the bottle opener works simply and will often even hold the bottle cap after removing it so that it doesn't go flying. Great tool, very light weight, very comfortable to use.

I honestly think this is my favorite leatherman super tool ever. I have owned a couple pst's, a blast and most recently a charge alx. These were all great but they always seemed a little overkill for what I needed. When I saw this one though on their site I just knew I had to have it only to find out they were backordered everywhere. So I persevered with my charge alx until the backorder ended. Man was it worth the wait. It is absolutely perfect. I fits great in my acu pockets. The caribiner clip attaches to anything from my belt loops when I ride my sportbike to my backpack and anything in between. The spring mechanism is super strong and you don't need to worry about it coming loose. As other people have stated the mechanism is a little tight but it loosen up quick. The knife blade slides out nice and smooth too. I think this is down to the bronze bushings similar to other leathermans.
The only downsides I can state but none really are any shortcomings. The first is that the lightweight makes the skeletool seem not as sturdy as other leatherman Super Tool offerings but once you admire it and really look at it you realize that this is not the case. It is extremely well made and feels solid while you use it. This also leads into the next "shortcoming". It is too damn beautiful. I catch myself just admiring it. The carbon fiber accents the black coating (which is very durable. I believe it is similar to a coating used on sportbike cylinder walls if that gives you any indication of the durability.) so gorgeously. It gives a look similar to a stealth bomber. You better get used to coworkers wanting to look at it if you own one.
All in all I say to anyone sitting on the ledge that I is worth every penny. I think leatherman has finally built the perfect everyday multitool. Lightweight, sexy and just the right amount of functionality.

This is such a usefull tool to have at the campsite. I've used it countless times from cutting to prying to sawing. The nylon sheath dries quickly if it gets wet. I do keep the tool clean and well oiled. The blade does hold an edge and is easy to sharpen, the pliers are quite strong and can easily bend or twist wire.


The Leatherman Super Tool Blast is one of my EDC (every day carry) items. It's that just right multitool. Has all the functions you need on a day-to-day basis in a small, compact package that doesn't get in your way. If I lost it I would replace it without hesitation.

Are there bigger or better multitools? Sure. Many rave about the Leatherman Wave or Charge, but they are heavier, and good luck finding them at less than 1.5x or 2x the street price of this Blast. Victorinox also makes a pricier SwissTool line. For some of course this price difference will be worth it. I feel anything smaller or cheaper than the Blast is likely to be a compromise (some useful tools missing, pliers less sturdy, lesser materials and quality, or something else) - although in many cases, such compromises are OK depending on your purpose.

If you're currently serving or adventurous or simply need a tool for everything, look no more.
I'm not trying to sound like a cheesy seller, but this tool has impressed me and totally backed up my preference to Leatherman over S.O.G. known from the military.
It features everything I need and I don't mind it not having a 'bit' compatibility.
The tool is flexible but sturdy as hell and does not show any of the flaws experienced with the Skeletool CX.
The only flaw I can think of, is that in the first days of usage, the black oxide finish sort of tainted my hands, then again It was really hot and I was employing it in heavy duty work.
Overall, awesome tool, really thought through, premium Leatherman quality!

Good tool. Mine arrived very quickly. Only complaint is that the black coating is a bit powdery upon arrival. Upon handling it for the first time or two you will have black powder all over your hands.

just received this tool as a gift on Christmas. It is very well built and able to do just about anything you would need it to from tightening the small screws on a watch to putting together a bookcase to fixing your car. I have the black oxide edition of the surge and as described in other reviews, your hands will be black for a short time while initially working with it. The tool is solid; much better than any other multitool I've ever used. I'll update the review at a later date if it does not do what I imagine it will but thus far, I am very impressed by this tool. Would highly recommend this to everyone.

Impressive! I was hoping this tool would be worth the investment. I have not had the chance to use the gut hook yet, but the knife I used several times and was very pleased. I also used the screw driver and it worked quite nice also. What really surprised me was how well the pliers worked. Not all pliers were created equal. I've used craftsmen, snap-on and others before. These pliers to me worked just as well as the snap-on pliers possibly even better. I was pulling staples out of sealed heavy duty plastic packaging and to my amazement, these pliers never slipped off the staples as I pulled them straight out with plenty of force. Maybe Leatherman should make a line of professional tools.

I have had 3 other leatherman tools and have really liked them all. i recently purchased the charge after giving my wave to a friend. i love the removeable pocket clip and the s30v blade. i would never carry the wave in my pocket so i always had it in my computer bag or backpack which meant i often found myself in need of the tool when i didn't have it on me. with the clip, it fits more comfortably in my pocket and i always have it on me. the s30v blade takes a nice edge and doesn't dull easily. i have taken the tool camping several times and use it often to repair things around the house and on the job. it's sturdy and all of the tools i have used work very well. i also it feels slightly lighter than the wave did. so far i am happy with the upgrade.

This is my first Leatherman, I did a lot of research before I bought it and I love it. I got the one in the gift tin because it has a leather sheath v.s. others with nylon. The tools work great although all are stiff until oiled and broken in. It is very solid fells great in your had even when squeezing hard.
The knives have great edges on them and seem to stay sharp. The saw is very sharp and aggressive. I could not be happier.

I have several of these around the house and the cars. I have also given many as gifts. Well made and have enough tools to handle most small repairs. If I had to complain about anything it is that it's a little too heavy to carry comfortably in your pocket all day. No problem if you use the belt sheath though. I also have the Skeletool which is much more pocketable, but also has fewer tools. As other reviewers have said, this also makes a great gift for the handyman/handywoman or outdoorsman. It's a good idea to use a little lubricant to make it operate more smoothly. Also, be careful when opening the blade with one hand. I found out the hard way how sharp it is. If you don't have one of these, you should buy one.

I love my Wave more than most of my other multitools. I own 6 multitools at the time of this writing, and my Wave is my current favorite that I carry and use all the time.
The one handed blade opening is great. The operation is smooth and the blades themselves are extremely sharp.
I've done a lot of abusive stuff to this multitool, and so far it has held up well. I even sawed through a PVC pipe once in an emergency which I was sure was going to destroy the non-wood saw blade. It cut through nicely and actually made the saw sharper than before (I accidentally cut myself with it seeing if it was still sharp).
It's a great tool and you won't be disappointed.
My only complaint about it is that the internal tools are a little too tight to open comfortably. I wish they were as easy to open as the tools on my Leatherman SuperTool 300.

I have owned Leatherman's for years. And the Wave is the best of the bunch. The most versatile while still being compact and lightweight, forget about the bit options on any multi-tool...what a waste! You will lose the bits, and they are proprietary so expect to pay to replace them. For an ultralight I like the looks of the skeletool, but this is the one that remains on my belt from camping to hiking to working on the job or working on vehicles. I find leatherman to be better than the other brands (Gerber, SOG, don't even consider the made-in-china store brand stuff!) I was raised on Victorinox swiss army knives, but after my first leather man, I haven't gone back. Victorinox still makes a great product, but the overall utility of the leather man is far greater. Until they improve significantly on this one somehow, it will stay right with me.

Works great with my Charge Tti, and my brothers Surge, got the bit sets too, but I guess this one let's you use regular bits too. My brother was excited when he saw it in the surprise package for him, very useful. He and I were worried about breaking our odd shaped Leatherman bits and this solves that, still going to keep using the Leatherman bits.

I work in the electronics department at a major warehouse. I have to put the base on televisions, put T.V. stands, and home theater systems together too. The bit driver extention is very useful. I've only had this Leatherman Blast for a couple of weeks, but so far it's everything I'd hoped for. It has all the tools a typical person would regularly use, it's built solid, not too heavy, and folds up to a very compact size. My first multitool was a Swiss Army, and it was very handy and complete; however, I'd have to say that this Blast will be better for me in the long run. The pliers and all tools locking system is what sold me from buying another Swiss. I had researched other brands (Gerber and Swiss) but decided on this Leatherman due mainly for what it has (and doesn't have, who really needs 20 plus tools in your pocket?)and the Leatherman name, and thus far it has exceeded my expectations.
No questions about it, I'd recommend this multitool for those Average Joes like me, or those who want a solid built, easy to use, and practical multitool.

I bought this craftsman because of the work I do and because of the many tools. I know I'll have the tool needed to get the job done. I bought another leatherman from a sporting goods store then found this one at Amazon for just a little bit more but with more tools. The quality is very good and I am very pleased so far with the purchase. If it holds up working near the beach then all the better. The last leatherman I used (and lost) didn't have a problem for over 12 years of using it even though it was exposed to salt water.


A very handy tool that my husband wears to work on his belt each day...we're very pleased with the quality and versatility. Highly recommend! Pricey but you are paying for great quality!

The leatherman blast is a great knife. the ability to lock out each and every tool greatly increases their utility. The frame is stiff enough to provide a very stable handle. I had previously owned a leatherman and after losing it, I tried replacing it with a couple of other brand knives over about a year and nothing measured up to a leatherman. Worth every penny.
Only complaint is that the tools are a little hard to get started when opening them. I keep my nails short and the frame is just deep enough to make it hard to catch the lift notches especially for the blade. On the other hand, I know my three year old wouldn't be able to open them if she got hold of the knife.

Open the straight and serrated knife blades with one hand by placing your thumb at the base of the blade and rotating the knife until it's fully extended, which securely engages the locking mechanism. It's a simple feature, but it's one that guarantees your safety.


To open and close the interior blades, just grip the handles and swing them open. Each interior blade can be lifted out by using the nail nicks or the thumb lifts. And if you wish to change blades, simply remove the saw or blade file from the blade exchanger by opening the exchanger to a 90-degree angle from the closed handles. The blade releases from a t-shank connector at the clasp. Changing tool bits is equally easy. Just open the bit driver, grasp the tool bit, and pull it straight out -- then snap the desired bit into place.

I recently gave my daughter my Leatherman "Supertool" when she moved away to start a new job, telling her that it had most tools she would need. Then I saw a gift set display with the "SURGE" with a very nice Leatherman knife that has two screwdrivers and a set of bits to use in the interchangeable screwdriver... I couldn't resist, and have been very pleased with the whole set... with the small exception that the leather case rides too high on the belt, I switched to a nylon case I had which works fine but doesn't hold the extra bits. That being said I like the "huge size" of this tool,it really is big, (compared to other multi-tools) but I need to use tools all day every day, so it might be a lot to carry if that was not the case. I still carry the blunt nose Gerber always as it can turn a bolt when needed, and is easier to use one handed than any Leatherman tool, but this tool the SURGE, can do more things well than any of the other multi tools out there.

I bought a Leatherman Surge for my Step-father about 1 1/2 yrs ago. He loved it and said it was the best multi tool he'd ever used. So I bought my own. I work in the Oil and Gas Construction Industry. When your out in the middle of nowhere and need to fix something, there isn't any mechanics around, this beauty has done the job more than once. It is extremely sturdy and weighs a bit as well. I have used mine for just about everything, even getting lunch ready for my crew. The blades are extremely sharp and the edges last. That is crucial for any knife. I've cut cans in half and still sharp as ever. The pliers/wire cutters have fixed a few broken and melted wires. The scissors are super sharp and work in a pinch. The only down side to the scissors is the little plastic hanlde, it always breaks off. The multi tip screw driver is invaluable. I would reccommend this to anyone who works in thre fields or carries a knife.

The tool itself is absolutely amazing. It has every tool I will ever use and then some. The full locking blades is a great easy to use feature, the pliers are very powerful, and the scissors are HUGE. Everything else on it has been just absolutely great. The leather holster is another great feature. It feels like its going to hold up forever. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something like this.

I bought my Super Tool 300 w/ Black Oxide Finish because I always found myself needing a tool, and I never had one on me. Luckily, this has just about every tool I would ever need for a small job on it. Best of all, it is very very smooth to open and close, so you don't have to be sitting there for a minute trying to pry the thing open. The knife blade on it is extremely sharp, I had to cut through old rope that was about one inch in diameter, and one swipe did it easily. The saw blade is very strong also, tearing through wood without a problem. The first day that I had it, some black residue came off on my hands, but I expected that after reading a few other reviews. The "hidden" stripper and crimper are great because they don't take up room in the tool, they are built in to other tools. Plus, the black finish looks awesome. I keep this tool in my pocket every day, and I am a college student. I recommend to do the same.

The new Super Tool 300 is ALL new. I love nearly everything about it. The only thing I have an issue with is the small flat blade screw driver. The 200 series had a long very narrow tip and was perfect for everything from adjusting the gain on a microphone to unlocking interior doors in the home. I like the new design features but long for that mini flat blade. Still, altogether I would rate the price and quality as an excellent value.
The Multitool is really nice but the sheath won't fit on a belt that's wider than about an inch. Which is O.K. I guess if you use a piece of rope for a belt.

I have tried several multi tools and this is my favorite. What stands out most for me is the ability to fold out straight to use at the base of a 90 degree angle. Other multi tools do not have the ability to fold the pliers into one side when open, therefor making it much more difficult to remove screws with any obstructions around them. The new blade lock release and rolled edges are a great improvement over the old super tool. Like I said, I have 3, one in my tool belt, one in my car and another in my camp/go bag.

have had a leatherman for years. The first leatherman I gave to my son and he took it to the military as an electronic tech. finding it extremely useful. Now it is used extensively in the military. Meanwhile I replaced that one with the super tool 300 (one of the original ones).
In Australia I found the police liked the super tool and I showed mine to friends there, that is why I bought it to send to my friend.
My tool has been used hard for many years and has never need repairing despite having a lifetime guarantee which they honor with no questions.

As far a multitools go this is the best one for the tradesman. Different models meet different needs. It all depends on what your needs will be. As far as someone in the trades is concerned the leatherman super tool 300 fits more needs than any other multi-tool out there, but this isn't to put down other models or makes out there. Before I bought I looked and handled all the other models and makes. In the final decision it was between the super tool 300 and the surge model. What broke the tie was the replacement cutter blades and lack of scissors. Once you damage unreplaceable cutting blades your stuck with trying to fix them yourselves. And scissors are rarely used in trades work. In my opinion leatherman makes the best multi tools. Victorinox also makes a great tool but it does fit the needs of the trades like the leatherman does. Understand a multi tool will never replace a purpose built dedicated tool for the job. A multi tool is something you will want with you at all times when you are without your dedicated tools.

This tool is very well built and all of the tools inside are put there for real use. I own a Kick, Wave, SkeletoolCX, Surge and the Supertool 300. All have a purpose, but if I am doing dedicated hard work this is on my side. Buy it
I have to say though, that the 300 has been an excellent decision.


Since I got it two weeks ago we've gutted and rebuilt our basement, and done a lot of work on our kitchen cabinets. My new Leatherman has been at my side for both, and performed admirably.


I've never even felt like I was anywhere near breaking anything, and have been impressed by the build quality of every tool I've used. Notably, the phillips head screwdriver is full size, not one of those flat ones that never work quite right!


It's a little large, but that's actually been nice when I've felt the need to bang on something with it like it's a hammer.
